HARMONY

We adopted Harmony from your shelter in September of 2020. I wanted to give you an update on her. We had 5 years to love her, unfortunately she passed away at the end of May. Harmony was born with a rare brain cyst that grew large enough to press on nearby brain areas, causing swelling and damage over time. This was a slow-developing, congenital problem rather than something she “caught” or developed suddenly. We opted to do the rare surgery on her at the Mass Referral Veterinary Hospital. Her recovery from the surgery was miraculous. However, about 2 months after surgery she got sick nothing to do with surgery and developed pneumonia that she didn’t survive. We were heartbroken but so blessed to have had her in our lives for as short as it was. We were grateful that we did opt to do everything we could to save her. She taught us how much we could love a furbaby.

We are so sorry that Darcy is no longer with us. She had a wonderful home and was given a second chance. For that we are grateful. Her owner expressed to us: “I adopted Darcy at one of your adoption events in 2020. I am totally devastated that I have had to say good-bye to her. Darcy has crossed Rainbow Bridge.  “Darcy was light and love.  She loved everyone and especially loved her older brother and her cats.  While her life was too short, she loved and was loved beyond words.  My world was a better place with her in it. Thank you for her. I will forever be grateful to you.”

It is with great sadness that we received a note today saying Ox has crossed Rainbow Bridge. Ox was a gentle giant with a fabulous personality A quote from his family after they adopted him.....”Wanted to thank y'all tremendously for Ox. He's the best dog I've had in a long time. Great with kids, checks in on the little babies while they nap as well as he's overly cautious when the little babies are around him going as far to walk to the far side of the room to avoid stepping on them. He barks when he's supposed to just a great all around dog. Been working on training without a leash and he's doing great. Just gotta keep his attention away from the neighborhood squirrels. So, in our first week with ox he's put on a few pounds, we visited a local brewery and he had the attention of everyone. Probably had 100 people ask to pet him.”

Rest in Peace, Ox. Your watch is complete.

Cinnamon came to Rebecca’s Paws and Claws in April 2018.  She was a Talladega alumni.   We saw her on a visit and she seemed a great dog so we thought we would pull her and quickly find her a home.  She was already spayed, so a quick update of vaccines and she would be ready to go.  Not so fast, she proved to be heartworm positive,  so we needed to address this, oh and she tried to find her way back to Talladega once and she ended up with a fractured foot.  So her time at the rescue grew and grew.  Meanwhile we all fell in love with her.  She loved everyone,  she loved all the dogs, the pups, the cats.  Soon everyone just kinda stopped talking about her availability for adoption and realized that Cinnamon,  Cinnabon was home.  She was deeply loved by every worker, volunteer, cat or dog at the rescue. We will all miss her peaceful presence every single day.

Eleven years ago, we adopted a puppy named Tom from your rescue organization. Later, we changed his name to Blue. Thanks to you, we had the chance to meet him and share 11 wonderful years together. We’re so grateful for the work you do and for the happiness Blue brought into our lives. Thank you so much for your kindness and for all the amazing work you do for animals.

In Memory of Blue

On November 2, 2024, our hearts were shattered when our sweet Blue left us. The house feels empty without him, and the garden, once filled with joy and shared moments, now feels silent and still.

We rescued Blue 11 years ago, but in truth, he rescued us, too. From the moment I held him in my arms, I knew we were meant to be together. He brought love, comfort, and a kind of joy that only he could give.

We miss him every day. Sometimes, I see him in my dreams, and waking up without him is so hard. But I know that this is part of life, even though it’s difficult to accept.
